What Animal Am I?




I, as most Americans, spend most of my time going to work or school and spare time with friends and family.  While driving or in my very little spare time, I will listen to the news on the radio or watch/stream news.  And lately, I have felt I do not know where my place is politically. 

I want clean air and water and I recognize the political plays at hand to control resources. I want everyone to have access to good schools and want college or job training to be affordable for all.  I want women and men in control of their bodies, to have choices of doctors and the choice of how much and how little to be insured.  I do not want people turned away from the hospital. I do not want to kill a late term fetus or sell aborted parts for profit. I feel in despair seeing the poor displaced people at the border. I want to help but am afraid at the same time.  I do not want to pay any more taxes since so much comes out of my check as it is. 

Where is my voice?  Are there any others like me and I just cannot hear them through the media chaos?  Who am I, an elephant or a donkey? What is my place?  It seems by the news you must pick a side and then you must either shout it out or hide in shame for your opinions.

So, what do I know?  I went back to the beginning where Thomas Jefferson stated in the Declaration of Independence “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”  I see this simply as we are justified in going after these rights, but the government is not supposed to provide these for us, dictate to us or infringe upon these in the general sense. I want all my freedoms and I do not want others to infringe on mine and I do not want to infringe on other's freedoms.

In the next posts, we dive down in to some of the nitty-gritty of these issues in the most simplistic ways.  It might even seem extreme and even obviously silly. The purpose is to generate thought and a conversation about what is and what could be or what may happen if we do not redirect our course.

  3. I think each party has some crazy. That is the point since the parties started. We just cannot identify us by the party but by what we believe in. The person sometimes matters and other times it is just the platform. I like lower taxes, better immigration reform, and better trade agreement however Trump may not be someone I would want to be my best friend. I do not want my friends to be the president. They are too nice and they could not make the hard decisions.
